Throughout the UK, electric vehicle charging infrastructure in public and private spaces is booming. In fact, as of 30 June 2022 all new buildings, including houses, are required to install electric car charging points. At the heart of the UK’s mammoth overhaul of its car refuelling network are some of the names you’d expect, but one you may not yet have heard of is Juice Technology.

Obviously, you know what liquidised fruit is, but this company is all about electron juice. Juice Technology is an international Swiss-based company that produces charging solutions and software for electric vehicles. Its founder and CEO, Christoph Erni, was driven to produce the first high quality mobile EV charger because such a thing did not exist. His first effort was the original Juice Booster and it enjoyed a lot of commercial success. Pursuing this demand and market gap, Erni launched Juice Technology AG in 2014.

Despite already having an international reach across Europe, America, and Asia, Juice Technology has only penetrated the borders of the UK and Ireland in 2022, launching a subsidiary called Juice UK and Ireland.

The idea of a portable EV charger has been on the minds of drivers of electric vehicles for as long as EVs have been gracing our roads. So far, such a thing has been elusive but Juice Technology offers a remedy with the Juice Booster 2.

In line with Juice Technology’s slogan, “The juice is already there: all you have to do is make it accessible”, the company managed to achieve its goal with its universal and portable EV charger: the Juice Booster 2.

The Juice Booster 2 is completely different to aftermarket EV charger cables. Through its optional adaptors, it can be used worldwide and with plugs ranging from a single-phase domestic socket, through to a 32-amp three-phase industrial socket and regular, untethered EV charge points. There are even 16-amp CEE adaptor plugs available for the Booster 2, which fit the sockets commonly found at campsites.

This means the Juice Booster 2 gives users the opportunity to charge their EV in places beyond just domestic sockets and EV charge points, and at a rate up to 22kW. Users don’t have to spend time fiddling around with settings on the Juice Booster 2, either. It automatically detects what adaptor is connected. Plug and play, as they say.

In addition to being convenient and clever, the Juice Booster 2 is also very tough. It’s IP67 rated, which means it’s waterproof, and Juice Technology has also constructed the Booster 2 to withstand being run over by a car. The Juice Booster 2 can be driven over with a wheel load of up to 3 tonnes, as the company has already proven several times and had the device driven over by cars, trucks, buses and even a tank. Despite all this heavy-duty stuff, the Juice Booster 2 just weighs one kilogram.

On the safety side, the Juice Booster 2 features Juice Celsius, which constantly monitors the temperature of the household socket adaptors and therefore protects against overheating. There is also safety software that detects any AC or DC faults, plus continuous monitoring of the earthing conductor. Users have complete peace of mind with the Juice Booster 2.

Thus, the Juice Booster 2 epitomises the company’s ethos of making EV charging simple and accessible. In short, as easy as charging a smartphone.
