The Best Gifts For Muscle Car Fans

Ford has sold tens of thousands of Mustangs since it was introduced to the European market a few years ago. Evidently, there is a sizeable portion of Europeans that find the somewhat elementary characteristics of American muscle cars endearing and thrilling. At CAR we understand that having been subject to smiles so large cheeks remained sore for days after testing the new mid-engined C8 ‘Vette and latest Mach 1 Mustang. They were a little squidgy by Porsche’s standards but far less serious.

So perhaps you’ve found yourself in the situation where you have a muscle car fan as a friend or in the family. And perhaps they have a muscle car in the garage, and perhaps that garage exists only in their mind. Whatever the scenario, muscle car-themed gifts seem a natural path to take when the time demands it. To help you along and to prevent you from buying them a towel with ‘Vette’ on it, we’ve curated this useful collection of gifts for muscle car fans.

The best gifts for muscle car fans

LEGO Speed Champions Chevrolet Corvette C8.R Race Car and 1968 Corvette
Price: $62.50
Alternative retailers
Walmart$68.00View offer

You literally can't go wrong here. Everyone likes LEGO and this kit has two excellent muscle cars in it. That's like having a pie with steak and pork (or chickpeas and pine nuts if you're vegetarian). However, if the recipient is more of a Ford fan there is a version with a Ford GT and Bronco R; also one with a Dodge and dragster; or one with a ZL1 Camaro.

Franzis Ford Mustang 289 V8 Model Engine Kit
Price: $229.00
Alternative retailers
Walmart$15.46View offer

Muscle car fans like a crate engine. This is a crate engine only much smaller and less greasy. This particular motor is a model replica (1:3 scale) of the 289cu V8 from the 1965 Ford Mustang. It's a highly detailed kit, consisting of 200 parts. Along with being enjoyable, it certainly teaches a lot about engine parts and how they work. Good for discussions down the pub. Dimensions are roughly 18cm (W) x 27cm (H) x 25cm (D).

Driving muscle cars is the best gift you could provide to a muscle car fan. This particular session is our recommendation because it gives the recipient choice about which muscle cars to drive, rather than you having to choose. Locations are available all over the UK. Revell 1968 Dodge Charger R/T Model Kit
Price: $112.33

A 139-piece, 1:25-scale kit that kills a few hours and looks great on the desk or bookcase. The exterior, interior, and engine detail are impressive. The model needs to be painted and paint is not included. Other excellent Revell muscle car kits include a Ford Mustang GT 350 H, Chevy Chevelle SS, 1958 Chevy Corvette, Plymouth Barracuda, 1970 Pontiac Firebird, Ford Mustang Fastback, and Shelby Cobra.

Tamiya Ford Mustang GT4
Price: $143.32
Alternative retailers
Walmart$133.00View offer

There aren't many remote control cars that are worth the time or money but Tamiya is an exception to this rule. We've tested a few on and off-road models and found them to be excellent. This 1:10 scale Mustang sits on the TT-02 chassis (good for beginners but capable) and is powered by a 540 electric motor. As is typical of Tamiya, the attention to detail and robustness is impressive.

These little die casts are decorated in typical outlandish Hot Wheels style, but they are true to model shape. They all look superb and are certainly detailed enough to be added to a collection.

American Muscle Cars: A Full-Throttle History

Rrp: $55.00

Price: $25.28
Alternative retailers
Target$42.49View offer

This is an interesting book. Rather than creating a linear model by model page-flicker, it looks at how the muscle car came about and how it became the ultimate expression of Americanism during the muscle car glory days.

Can-Am Racing Cars 1966-1974: Racing Portfolio
Price: $32.00

For Can-Am racing fans, this is a great read. It looks at the models that competed in the mad series and all the design experimentation that was such a massive part of the series' appeal.

The GT40 was very different to other American cars; likewise, this is quite a different account of it. Rather than being a 'history of', it's a compilation of feature articles about the GT40. It's quite a technical and nerdy book, but it certainly reveals some unique content about the GT40.

American Muscle Car Poster
Price: $27.00 (starting)

To finish things off, here is a high-quality poster print of great American muscle cars. It can be had in a range of sizes and can also be framed if you wish.
